Sophia

Moros took Sophia’s hands in one of his and tipped her head back with the other. He held her chin, so she had to stare into his eyes.

“You are Sophia,” he said, his voice rough and husky, his icy blue irises displaying the intensity burning deep within him. “Fate or not, you are strong, determined, and brave. You give yourself to the greater good both as a leader and a friend, and you stand up for what you believe in no matter what anyone else thinks. You would risk anything and everything to help someone who needs it. You saved my sorry ass when I was supposed to be arrested for breaking the law. No matter what, you are an amazing person with a big heart and incredible wit. No one can take that away.”

Sophia’s jaw dropped, and she blinked at him in absolute shock. Was he pouring his heart out to her? It had been evident that he was attracted towards her, but she hadn’t known he held her in such esteem. “You really think so?”

His eyes flashed as though he couldn’t believe she would doubt it. “Do I think so? Do you think I’d risk my life jumping on a motherfucking griffin to save just anyone? Which, by the way, was very heroic of me, and I never received the proper recognition for being such an awesome badass.”

“Oh, sorry. You are such a badass,” she said, smirking.

“Thank you. I would not just throw out my amazing badass moves for anyone, though. I straight up lied to Chronos, and that guy could do some serious damage to me if he wanted. Still, I leaped off a cliff—a cliff, Sophia!—to stop that asshole from taking you.”

“You did tell him you were on his side.”

“I said what I needed to so he wouldn’t slice your throat or throw me to the bottom of the cliff! Do you see any wings on me?” He made a show of looking at his own torso before looking back to Sophia. She shook her head, and he gave her an I told you so look.

She had never seen this side of him. He was being playful. When did they become this close?

“I had to lie to keep us both safe. I tried to convince him to go along with my plan, one that would keep you safe and alive and bring the other Fates here.”

“But if the other Fates had fallen for the bait, they would have been ambushed.”

“Well, I’d hoped to warn them about the ambush first! Give me some credit.”

“I didn’t know you were doing all of that for me.”

“Of course, I was. Everything I’ve done since we left the villa was for you. When I found out that Chronos had gone to your cell, I almost—"

“You didn’t know?”

“No, I didn’t know. Did he tell you we had planned it or something?”

“Actually, he said he didn’t trust you.”

“Well, damn. I thought I was pretty convincing. That should show you I don’t have much practice lying.
